{"id":2779,"date":"2023-06-23T13:40:18","date_gmt":"2023-06-23T12:40:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sepri.pt\/noticia\/occupational-medicine-whats-the-final-decision-after-the-exams\/"},"modified":"2023-06-23T13:40:18","modified_gmt":"2023-06-23T12:40:18","slug":"occupational-medicine-whats-the-final-decision-after-the-exams","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sepri.pt\/en\/noticia\/occupational-medicine-whats-the-final-decision-after-the-exams\/","title":{"rendered":"Occupational medicine: what&#8217;s the final decision after the exams?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>An <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sepri.pt\/pt\/noticia\/medicina-do-trabalho-tudo-o-que-tem-de-saber\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">occupational medicine consultation<\/a> is not very different from a general medical consultation, except that it focuses on work-related issues.<br \/>\nIn other words, in this consultation, the doctor assesses the signs and symptoms linked to the worker&#8217;s professional activity. <\/p>\n<p>At the end of the occupational health consultation, the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sepri.pt\/pt\/noticia\/ficha-de-aptidao-medica-sepri-lisboa\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">Medical Aptitude Form (FAM)<\/a><\/strong> is completed.<br \/>\nThe aptitude form determines the worker&#8217;s ability to perform their job and can result in: <\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<p><strong>Fit worker<\/strong>: if the worker has no health condition that prevents them from performing their duties safely and efficiently, they are considered fit for work.<br \/>\nIn this case, no additional restrictions or recommendations are required and the employee can continue to carry out their activities as normal. <\/p>\n<p>It should be noted that the determination of fitness is always for a specific function, on a specific date and in a specific clinical context, and is therefore a concept that can be re-evaluated.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p><strong>Conditionally fit worker<\/strong>: if the doctor identifies a health condition that may affect the worker&#8217;s ability to perform certain tasks, specific restrictions may be established.<br \/>\nThese restrictions may include workload limitations, movement restrictions, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sepri.pt\/pt\/noticia\/postura-correta-no-escritorio-dicas-de-ergonomia\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">ergonomic adaptations<\/a> in the workplace or the need for periodic medical monitoring. <\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p><strong>Temporarily unfit worker<\/strong>: if the doctor identifies a temporary health condition that prevents the worker from performing their duties safely, they may be considered temporarily unfit.<br \/>\nIn this case, the worker will be temporarily withdrawn from their activities and will receive appropriate medical treatment until they are fit to return to work. <\/p>\n<p>You will also have to go on sick leave and request a period of Absolute Temporary Incapacity for work from your GP.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p><strong>Permanently unfit worker<\/strong>: in more serious cases, if the doctor identifies a permanent or chronic health condition that makes it impossible for the worker to perform their duties safely and efficiently, they may be considered permanently unfit for work.<br \/>\nIn this situation, alternatives will be explored, such as professional rehabilitation, job reassignment or the granting of disability retirement benefits. <\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>It&#8217;s important to stress that professional secrecy is very important.<br \/>\nThe occupational physician may not reveal any of the employee&#8217;s illnesses to the company.<br \/>\nOn the medical aptitude form, they should only record any limitations or restrictions on the employee&#8217;s tasks.<br \/>\nNor is the worker obliged to disclose their illnesses and disabilities to their employer.   <\/p>\n<h2><strong>What are the advantages of occupational medicine for companies?<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sepri.pt\/pt\/noticia\/medicina-no-trabalho-em-braga-conhe%C3%A7a-servi%C3%A7os-seguran%C3%A7a-saude-trabalho-sepri\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">Occupational medicine<\/a> offers a number of advantages for companies.<br \/>\nHere are some of them: <\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>\n<p><strong>Promoting employee health and well-being<\/strong>: occupational medicine aims to identify and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sepri.pt\/pt\/noticia\/doen%C3%A7as-profissionais\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">prevent work-related health conditions<\/a>.<br \/>\nThis includes carrying out periodic medical examinations, assessing <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sepri.pt\/pt\/noticia\/avaliacao-riscos-profissionais-empresas\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">occupational risks<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sepri.pt\/pt\/noticia\/sa%C3%BAde-mental-e-alimenta%C3%A7%C3%A3o-como-se-relacionam\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">promoting healthy habits<\/a>.<br \/>\nBy taking care of employees&#8217;
