What is occupational medicine and what are companies’ obligations?<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Occupational Medicine<\/a> is a medical specialty dedicated to the promotion, prevention, diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation of workers’ health, with a view to protecting the physical<\/a> and mental<\/a> integrity of workers in the workplace.<\/p>\n

Its main objective is to guarantee safe and healthy working conditions, prevent accidents<\/a> and occupational illnesses<\/a> and promote the well-being of workers.
\nIt responds to Law 102\/2009, of September 10, in its current wording<\/a>. <\/p>\n

Medical Fitness Form<\/strong><\/h2>\n

What is it?<\/strong><\/h3>\n

The Medical Aptitude Form is a confidential document and its purpose is to guarantee the safety and health of the worker<\/a>, as well as helping the company to make appropriate decisions to prevent accidents at work and occupational illnesses<\/a>.<\/p>\n

What is the Medical Fitness Form for?<\/strong><\/h3>\n

It is a document designed to assess a worker’s suitability to carry out a particular job or work activity.
\nThis form is filled in and signed by the occupational physician after an admission, periodic or occasional examination has been carried out, in accordance with established legislation<\/a>. <\/p>\n

Depending on the activity being carried out and the occupational risks involved, the doctor may order additional tests, such as blood tests, X-rays, electrocardiograms, among others, to help assess the worker’s health.
\nBased on the information obtained, the doctor must assess whether the worker is fit to perform the desired function. <\/p>\n

If the result of the health check reveals that the employee is unfit, the occupational doctor must indicate on the form, where appropriate, other duties that the professional can perform.
\nWhenever the work proves to be detrimental to the employee’s health, the occupational physician must notify the person responsible for occupational health and safety. <\/p>\n

Professional secrecy is very important.
\nThe occupational physician may not reveal any of the employee’s illnesses to the company.
\nIn the medical aptitude form, they should only record the employee’s conditions or restrictions on tasks.
\nNor is the employee obliged to disclose their illnesses and disabilities to their employer. <\/p>\n
