The collection will take place at headquarters of the Lions Club of Braga, near the train station, by a clinical team from the Instituto Português do Sangue e da Transplantação in partnership with SEPRI – Medicina do Trabalho.

I’m pregnant.
Can I give blood?
You cannot give blood while you are pregnant.
You can apply to donate blood 6 months after giving birth.
I tested positive for COVID-19.
Can I give blood?
Donor candidates who have had COVID-19 should wait 14 days after the resolution of symptoms and clinical recovery.
Is my blood type necessary?
Yes.
All blood groups are necessary, even those that are most common.
If you think that the most common group is A+, this is also the most necessary.
I’m menstruating.
Can I give blood?
A hemoglobin test is carried out during the donor’s clinical assessment.
If the hemoglobin value is greater than or equal to 12.5gr/dl and you don’t have menstrual cramps, you can give blood.
I have diabetes.
Can I give blood?
Yes.
You can give blood as long as your blood glucose levels are normal and you’re not taking insulin.
I’m over 65 years old.
Can I give blood?
There is no age limit for donating blood.
Donors over the age of 65 may give blood with the authorization of the blood service doctor.
I have a tattoo.
Can I give blood?
You can give blood 4 months after getting the tattoo.
Is special care needed after the donation?
Around 450ml of blood will be taken from you.
It is important to drink more fluids (water) before and after the donation so that the volume is easily replenished.
After donating blood, anyone can return to their normal profession.
However, some activities, such as working at height, should not be carried out in the hours following the donation.
All recommendations will be given to you by the qualified health professional who accompanies you during the donation.
