On this World Dental Day, our dentist, Dr. Cristina Gamboa Torres, answers some of the most frequently asked questions about the whitening process (tooth whitening), implant placement and fixed orthodontic braces.
How is teeth whitening done?
What results can I expect?
Teeth whitening is done in the office in 1, 2 or 3 sessions.
Whitening lightens the color of the tooth, but for teeth to be completely white, as we see on social media, crowns or veneers are often necessary.
There are whitening treatments that can be carried out at home, with trays and specific whitening agents, but in any case it is always advisable to have professional advice.
Orthodontics: is treatment with fixed braces painful?
How long until the teeth are corrected?
The treatment is not painful.
The length of time always depends on each case and the type of malocclusion, and can vary from 1 year to 2 years on average.
If the case is severe, treatment may last longer.
It should be noted that orthodontics can be corrective, interceptive and/or preventive.
Are dental implants permanent?
Will I lose teeth during the placement process?
Implants replace the lost tooth, in which case a crown can be fitted.
When more teeth have been lost, a full or partial prosthesis can be placed, either fixed or with retainers.
What determines the placement of provisionals or immediate crowns is the primary stability of the implant placement.
Planning with the dentist can determine the best solution for each case.
After implants have been placed, the patient should visit the dentist every 6 months to check hygiene and the supporting tissues around the implant.
Can the dental implant be lost?
Implant loss can occur, although it is not very common.
Loss can occur due to infection, lack of stability during surgery or some complication during the treatment itself.
It is therefore important to have informed consent and to discuss with each patient the risks and the rules to be followed to avoid them.
Is there a right age to get braces?
Orthodontics can be corrective, interceptive and/or preventive.
It can start as early as 6 or 7 years old or even in adulthood.
It’s important to note that the treatment margin depends on the patient’s growth and cooperation.
On World Dental Day, it’s important to stress the importance of ongoing prevention. It’s crucial to visit the dentist regularly and maintain a close relationship with him or her. To book a dental appointment at SEPRI, call 969 584 827.
