There are precautions to be taken when working in front of a monitor.
In these cases, visual requirements deserve special attention.
Take care with lighting:
-
Avoid extreme light contrasts (e.g. working in a dark room while looking at the screen), excessive illumination of the screen and glare from sunlight;
-
Sit across from the window (do not sit with your face or back to the window) and use the blinds if necessary;
-
Adjust the monitor’s brightness and contrast;
-
Increase readability by using the full width of the screen, no colors (e.g. dark font on a light background) and a sufficiently large font size and line spacing;
-
Always keep the monitor screen clean;
-
To avoid eye fatigue, use the 20-20-6 rule (i.e. every 20 minutes look for at least 20 seconds at a distance of at least 6 m).
Relaxation exercises for the eyes:
There are also some eye relaxation exercises, such as:
-
Blink voluntarily;
-
Look slowly to the right and left;
-
Make circular movements with your eyes, as if you were looking at a large circle;
-
Fix your gaze on a point and turn your head slowly to the right and left;
-
Focus your gaze on a nearby object and then on a distant object;
-
Close your eyes and relax.
Cover your eyelids with the palms of your hands to protect your eyes from the light.
