Summer is here and pollen is in the air, much to the dismay of allergy sufferers.
The good news for those who are allergic to pollen is that there are ways to prevent discomfort.
Here are 6 tips to help you avoid allergies.
-
If you do physical activity outdoors, adapt the time: choose to do it at the end of the day, as flowers and trees release more pollen at sunrise, with peaks in the late morning and early afternoon.
-
Keep your windows closed during the day: airing out your house for 15 minutes a day is a great habit.
Choose to do this at the end of the day, or even in the evening, to prevent pollen from invading your home.
You can also opt for air purifiers. -
Wear sunglasses: they may be more sensitive to allergens. Protect your eyes from possible allergenic particles in the air, which can lead to eye discomfort.
-
Avoid opening the windows when traveling by car: this will prevent particles from entering, while motorcyclists should opt for full-face helmets.
-
Pay attention to pillows, mattresses and carpets: pillows and comforters with feathers usually aggravate allergy attacks.
Prefer synthetic filling, such as polyester; vacuum mattresses, preferably with a vacuum cleaner with a high-efficiency filter; avoid carpets and rugs or opt for textiles that are easy to wash. -
Avoid sleeping with pets: pet dander is a great source of allergens such as pollen and dust mites.
